Hi, I’m Kathryn

My love for gardening began in my early twenties, thanks to my brother, who helped me get a job at the landscape company where he worked. Back then, my days were spent chasing a lawn mower and coaxing life from heavy clay soil that only the toughest plants could survive in. It was physically demanding work—and my muscles definitely had opinions about it—but I loved every minute.

Growing My Own Path

Later in life, I started a company of my own, offering a wide range of services to seniors and families. I became a true Jane-of-all-trades, with gardening always at the heart of what I did. As I worked, I noticed how dramatically richer soil transformed gardens—producing healthier plants and more vibrant growth.

Discovering Herbs & Permaculture

As I learned more about plants, I developed a growing interest in herbs, which led me to study remotely at Dominion Herbal College in Burnaby, BC—an institution teaching herbal medicine since 1926.

My learning continued as I discovered permaculture. In 2017, while living in BC, I earned my first Permaculture Design Certificate through the Permaculture Institute USA. I deepened my understanding with a second certificate in 2023 through Udemy, learning from classes taught by permaculture pioneer Bill Mollison and current institute administrator Geoff Lawton.

Each step shaped not only how I garden, but also how I understand the relationship between soil, plants, and people.

Companion Planting & Regenerative Gardening

Over the years, I’ve been introduced to companion planting and regenerative gardening techniques, which have deepened my belief that healthy soil is the foundation of healthy plants. I’ve also learned that plants are eager partners in this process—they willingly work with us to build richer, more vibrant soil.

I’m a passionate advocate for soil stewardship, and my garden designs always blend flowers and food—because why not have it all? Plants naturally protect and support one another while “feeding” the soil that, in turn, feeds the plants that nourish us. Understanding these relationships is key to creating gardens that are hearty, resilient, and abundant.

My Philosophy

I believe everyone deserves the deep satisfaction of harvesting their own food, along with the peace of mind that comes from greater food security and sovereignty. Together, we can build a future where fresh, healthy food is just steps away from our door.

If you’re ready to grow a garden that nourishes both body and soul, I’d love to help you get started—let’s create something beautiful together.
