Hello! My name is Kathryn, and I’ve been working with plants for over 40 years. I founded Growing Edible Gardens to empower people to create beautiful, functional gardens that blend food and flowers.
Everyone should feel the deep satisfaction of harvesting their own food and the peace of mind that comes with greater food security and sovereignty. Together, we can build a future where fresh, healthy food is just steps away from every home, and where communities grow stronger.
My love for plants took root early in life. As a young adult, I worked in landscaping, later expanded my knowledge by studying herbalism, earning my Chartered Herbalist accreditation from Dominion Herbal College. My approach is rooted in permaculture design and I have earned certificates from the Permaculture Institute USA and a course taught by Bill Mollison and Geoff Lawton, respectively the founder and current leader of the Permaculture Design Institute in Australia, whose teachings I deeply admire.
Further studies in regenerative agriculture deepened my belief that healthy soil is the foundation for healthy plants — and, ultimately, healthy people. I’m a passionate advocate for soil stewardship.
My garden designs always blend flowers and food — why not have it all? Over the years, I’ve learned that certain plants protect and support one another, and understanding these relationships is key to fostering gardens that are hearty, resilient, and abundant.
